Samuel Colt was born in Hartford, Connecticut on July 19, 1814. As a young kid, he attended a local school within his town, and he worked in his father's textile mill. He had great interest with machinery as a young boy, and enjoyed taking things apart to see how they worked. Within the mechanical devices that he messed around with were his father's firearms, disassembling and reassembling them. When he was 15 years old, Samuel decided he needed more adventure, so he found a ship that was building a crew, and he went along as a sailor to go to sea.
People say that Samuel Colt developed his idea for a pistol with a revolving cylinder on deck watching the ship's wheel. Whatever the inspiration was, Samuel Colt invented the revolver, which made a firearm from a single-shot to a multiple-shot pistol. In 1835, Colt received his first European patent on his revolver, and in 1836 he patented his invention in the United States. He established a factory to manufacture firearms in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1836, but his firearm was slow to be accepted. Colt's business closed down in 1842. When his firearms business failed, he saw a lot of potential in the technologies of his day that he had to try and put them to use. In 1847 Colt was able to rebuild faith in his firearms business because the U.S. Army contacted him to buy a large quantity of his revolvers. Colt was able to make the government's request come true, and it gave him the strength to manufacture firearms again. By persevering He opened a facility in England, and stated purchasing land along the Connecticut River to make a new factory there. In 1855, he completed construction of his new Hartford manufacturing plant, which was the largest private arms manufacturing facility in the world.
Sam Colt created more ideas for manufacturing which included the use of interchangeable parts, production lines, and advanced precision machinery. This was the most important part of Henry Ford's inspiration. The Colt name became famous worldwide because demand for his products grew. Colt firearms were known for their high quality and dependability, and Samuel Colt then became a very wealthy man. Samuel Colt died in 1862 at the age of 47 in Hartford, but his wife Elizabeth took over and the company continued to thrive.
Samuel Colt deeply connects to Henry ford and his achievements because he had great manufacturing techniques and had incredible knowledge on how to make a change on a product. Samuel colt made a gun that could fire more than once without reloading, and manufactured his product very rapidly. his product and business was a success in which people still use today... just like Henry ford.
